Valentine Starbuck captained the ship L'aigle for owners A. & J.Hill and Boulctott -
A log shows his sailings to and from England -

On the 22 July 1821 a full ship arrived at Portsmouth from the South Seas and
On the 26 July 1821 it arrived in Gravesend
On the 31 July 1821 the owners sold 150 tons of sperm oil and
On the 17 August 1821 they sold a further 135 tons.

( Just three weeks before setting sail again Valentine married - one would think that
he surely took his bride with him, being so soon after his wedding ? )

On the 7 Jan.1822 the ship sailed again for the South Seas

In 1823 Captain Valentine of Milford Haven sighted Starbuck Island when on a passage
from Honolulu to England and on board were the fated King Kamehameha II and his
wife.

On 24 April 1824 the ship arrived at Gravesend with 270 tons of sperm oil.

14 July 1825 Captain Starbuck was in court in an action taken by the owners of the
L'aigle against the Captain in breach of his contract to supply the expected amount of
sperm oil and that which he did have was inferior.

The court found for the plaintiffs with damages of £210
