In the 1960's when Percy died his second cousin BRIAN MORGAN STARBUCK formed a new
business partnership with Dorothy so that J & R Starbuck might ocntinue as a family concern.
When in 1969 Dorothy passed away Brian moved into Dalehill and shortly after in 1970 married
Sally nee Amess, they have two sons Jonathan born in 1972 and Robert in 1974. Plot No. 3 being
also purchased during this period.

When the marriage of Brian and Sally ended in 1990 Dale Hill was put up for sale but
unfortunately this coincided with the proposed Channel Tunnel Rail Link which blighted property
in the area, in the case of Dalehill due to its close proximity to the railway line, and it was not until
1887 that the house was sold, almost exactly one hundred years after Robert William Starbuck had
built it for his family.

Brian now lives in Gravesend where he was born, with his wife Mie nee Isogai

The earliest documentary evidence of the
business is recorded in the Gravesend Archives
in February 1718 when Isaac Starbuck took on
an apprentice ropemaker, William Bland, from
the workhouse. Isaac had been in Gravesend
since at least 1704 when he was married.
Therefore one must conclude he had been doing
something else to earn a living or had just been
working for himself without help.

Robert Starbuck had a boatbuilding and repair yard facing
the Thames where he constructed some of the famous
Gravesend Bawley boats. By the 1800's shipowning was
an important part of the business, and the family owned a
fleet of colliers, fishing vessels, a Leith smack and
Thames barges.
The family ropewalk was on the IPM site at Clifton Marine Parade later called Ditchburns's
they manufactured sisal rope by hand spinning raw fibres into strands which were "laid" into
rope and then tarred on site for mercantile marine use. By 1800's the shipowning was an
important part of the business, and the family owned a fleet of colliers, fishing vessels, a
Leith smack and Thames barges.

BRIAN STARBUCK
'Jane Duff'
St. Nicholas Parish Church,
South fleet, Kent
' Dalehill ' was a Starbuck Family home, built by
ROBERT WILLIAM STARBUCK (1864-1938)
at the end of the 19th century, he having first
purchased building Plot (2) on the eastern side of
Dale Road, at an auction in Gravesend. This was
held at the New Falcon Tavern, West Street, close
by the family Ship Chandlery business of JOHN
and ROBERT STARBUCK at numbers 73-75.

When his new house was finished ROBERT
WILLIAM (aka Young Bob) last of the families
Sailmakers, used to travel to work daily by train
between Southfleet and Gravesend West Street
stations, sometime later he also purchased Plot (1)
in Dale Road.

His wife ROSE EMMA nee SMITH ( 1865-1946)
was the daughter of a local grocer in Gravesend,
they had two children at Dalehill, the first being
(DOROTHY ROSE 1894-1969) and the second
PERCY ROBERT (1898-1966), both never
married, but lived out their lives together there.
