William Millhouse born in 1673 in Knipton in Leicestershire the son of
Thomas and Frances was the twin brother of John Millhouse of Pickworth,
but going by church register entries, they lived their lives quite
differently other than that they both lost most of their children.

PICKWORTH CHURCH Interior
It will be seen from the Will of John of
Pickworth that he did not have any direct
descendents to name as beneficiaries and
therefore named his cousins - children of his
aunt Jane Millhouse who married Robert Lamb
and also John Millhouse at present living with
him. This has to be the John who later married
Mary Crain and said to be of Pickworth at that
time. John was the son of his brother Henry
and Hannah and therefore his nephew.

LONG BENNINGTON, LINCOLNSHIRE

On the 16th January 1764

SARAH MILNHOUSE (widow) married WILLIAM WELBOURNE

Nothing further is known about this family - whether or
not the children survived, where they lived and it is
possible that other children were born before Thomas had
died in 1758. That would be handy as I have a couple of
strays who would fit very well !

ABOUT ST.ANDREWS PARISH CHURCH - PICKWORTH

St.Andrews is an extremly ancient church with many
differing dates for various parts of the building and the
objects within. The south door is 600 years old and
directly opposite the north door, known as the devil's
door, which was left open at a baptism, so that the evil
spirit could lose itself in the shadows of the north side
of the Church. Now though it is blocked up to keep out the
cold and draught. The Font has been in use for 700 years
and there is a 600 year old painting of St.Christopher
above the
north pillar, it was believed by those setting out on a
journey that the mere sight of this picture would save them
from every peril of the roads on that day. A Consecration
Cross has survived on the east wall which is believed to
date back to about 1358. The benches in the Nave are 14th
century and the Nave Rood Screen is mediaeval. The double
deck pulpit is dated 1693 and has an hour glass stand !
The altar rails are dated 1767 and the altar table early
17th century. The chest is about 300 years old and the
registers are unusually early: dating from 1538. There is
also a fine statue of St.Mary Magdalene which dates back to
about 1380. It was found in the 1960's in a blocked up 13th
century window near the tower and it now stands on its
original brackets near the Rood stairs, but is missing it's
head, left hand and right foot. (Did someone break it I
wonder and that is why it was hidden away !)
There are no known descendents of these families with the
Millhouse name - so many of them died and there has been no
trace of those without a burial entry.
