The Spreulls were an ancient family and members of the McFarlane Clan The
McFarlane Clan had a turbulent history much of it stemming from association
with the Earls of Lennox. The name "Spruell" is said to be one of the Scottish
surnames taken from Norman places, and is a surname of old standing in the
west of Scotland.
