GIBSON - JANE
Wife of Richard Millhouse
Jane Gibson married Richard Milnhouse on the 24th November
in 1641 at Denton Parish Church and apart from the fact that she had three known sons, nothing else is known about her.
There are many Gibson entries in the Vale churches but none
that seem even near to being a possible baptism of Jane Gibson - going by her marriage date it must be assumed she was born in the period of 1617-1624. |
PEAKE - MARGARET -
Wife of Richard Millhouse
Margaret, or it could be Marjorie, Peake married Richard
Milhouse on the 17th November 1610 at Knipton in Leicestershire. They had three known children - the first two born 1612 and 1613 died very young and only one other child survived as far as can be judged from the registers.
The only possible entry I have been able to find is the
following baptism but there is nothing else to indicate that we can be confident that this is correct.
BOTTESFORD, LEICESTERSHIRE
Baptised on 25 February 1583- Margarett d/o Richard Peake
If this is our Margaret it would have made her almost 18
years of age when she married Richard Millhouse in 1610 at Knipton, Leics. |
STARBUCK - Philadelphia
WIFE OF SAMUEL MILLHOUSE
Philadelphia Starbuck married Samuel Millhouse on the 28th
November 1830 at Harston in Leicestershire and died on 25th August 1870 at the age of 58 years. They set up home in Grantham where they stayed all their lives and raised their eight children - four of their sons becoming stonemasons as was their father.
Philadelphia was baptised on the 20th April in 1812 at
Harston the daughter of William Starbuck and Elizabeth nee Edmonds. I have traced the Starbuck family back to a 1712 marriage in Leicestershire. |
PARKER - BRIDGET
wife of Thomas Millhouse
Bridget Parker married Thomas Millhouse on the 13th
December in 1675 in Woolsthorpe and although she lived until 1720 there were only two children of the marriage as far as can be seen from register entries.
There are very few given the name of Bridget around at
that time so it should be easy to spot her baptism amongst others but I have only come across one, however, there is nothing to prove the following entry is Bridgets baptism other than the date being appropriate to the date of her marriage.
BOURNE, LINCOLNSHIRE
Bridgett Parker - Baptised 25 September 1625 -
d/o Robert Parker

GREGG - ANNE
wife of Thomas Millhouse
Anne Gregg married Thomas Millhouse in Woolsthorpe on the
5th April in 1711 and went on to have eight children. Four are shown by the registers to have died as infants and one a teenager - two others possibly died also as there has been no trace of them since their baptism.
Anne was probably born circa 1685 and lived a further 14
years after her husband Thomas died.
I have been unable to trace her baptism - and there are no
obvious indications as to whom she was born or where. There are Gregg entries in the registers in the vale churches including Woolsthorpe, but nothing to indicate whether they are or are not related to Anne Gregg. |
WRIGHT - ANNE
WIFE OF RICHARD MILLHOUSE
Anne Wright married Richard Millhouse on 17th February
1757 at St.James Parish Church in the village of Woolsthorpe and produced a family of three girls and one boy before Richard died in 1774.
WOOLSTHORPE
Anne was baptised at Woolsthorpe on the 15 June 1729 the
daughter of Peter Wright and Ann Welbourn. she had six known brothers and sisters - Lucy Ann / John / Samuel / Peter / Martha and Richard.
WELBOURN
The family of Ann Welbourn can be traced back to 1637 and
information about the Welbourn family can be seen on the above Welbourne link |
CLAY - SARAH
WIFE OF RICHARD MILLHOUSE
Sarah Clay was the second wife of the three marriages
of Richard Millhouse. They were married on the 19th of November 1799 at St.James Parish Church in the village of Woolsthorpe. They produced ten children in the 16 years before she died aged only 37 years. Sarah was buried in the Woolsthorpe graveyard joining Richards first wife in her grave. This happened in the September of 1814 just four months following the birth of her last child, Mary, who had been baptised in the May of that year.
Sarah was baptised on 24th November 1776 at Hough on
the Hill, in Lincolnshire, the daughter of Michael Clay and Mary nee Winter, and one of 7 known children. I have traced the Clay family back to a 1739 marriage in Lincolnshire. |
NEWTON - ELIZABETH -
WIFE OF WILLIAM MILLHOUSE
Elizabeth Newton married William Millhouse on 19th May
1867 at St.Wulframs in Grantham. They had three children, one dying as a child of 7 years with scarlet Fever. William and Elizabeth themselves, both died at a young age from T.B. in 1880 and 1882 - Elizabeth being just 36 years of age and left two orphaned girls to be looked after by family members.
Elizabeth was born in 1846 in Grantham the daughter of
Stephen Newton and Elizabeth nee Porter - she had two brothers, Stephen and Edward and a sister Jane but it has been difficult to find out anything more about them as Newton is such a commong name. In spite of this I have managed to trace the family back to a baptism in 1677 with the name spelt Nuton.
The grandfather of Elizabeth, another Stephen, was
baptised at Colsterworth and his parents were married there. This of course has given rise to speculation that there may be a link with the family of Isaac Newton. I have not found this to be the case but that does not mean there is not one still waiting to be found. |
