NEWSPAPER REPORT ABOUT NORMAN'S RETIREMENT

45 YEARS WITHOUT A DAY OFF

Sixty four years delivering milk, and 45 years without a day off.
That's the proud record of Norman Polding, who has decided to retire,
at the age of 70, from his rounds in Chiswick.
And tomorrow his customers will be waiting to greet him with gifts
they have collected for, and present to him.
Nobby, as he is known, gets up every morning at 3.30 and starts his
rounds at 4.0.
Nobby lives with his wife, Winnie, in Burlington Lane, and the dairy
business is operated from Acton Lane. His grandfather, father and
uncle were all in the business before him. The business has now been
sold
On his last rounds this week, Nobby said: "I haven't had a day off for
holidays or sickness since 1920 when I went to Hastings for a week. I
shall miss my work - but I think I deserve it."
In the first world war, Nobby served with the Army in France and
recalls the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Ypes.
Now he plans to take up bowls and hopes to put in some extra work
on his garden.
